So, the last poll was whether or not we wanted updates to the forums. This was a resounding 8 for, 0 against.

My next question is.. Do we want these forums updated or do we move to a new forum?

If you don't know what the difference is, i'll try and explain -

Completely new forums Pros -
More Customisable
Potentially easier to advertise

Cons -
A lot of work to get up and running
Lose our posts on here (Post count can be moved across, individual posts not)

I voted to update these forums on the grounds that the posts here can be preserved/archived in some way so that they're not lost entirely. (Is that even possible?)

Edit: oh, wait, no, I meant 'move to completely new forums'. Oh well.

Less work would be staying here, but that doesn't benefit us in the future. >.>

It's not a huge deal if we move to me.

The majority of the work I had done was recreate a whole series of fresh threads that explained everything about our forums, the RS friends chat, a new "introductions" thread etc. All of the contents of those threads could just be copy and pasted onto the new forums to help speed up the "starting" process if we were to move.

I like the idea of having a full website, with a news page, info section with stuff like history of global chat, maybe dedicated sections for pictures and videos of global chat, an events page that isn't just restricted to rs but for all games, profile page for users where you can blog etc.

If we moved, would we keep the rsglobalchat.com domain or get a new one? maybe try to drop the rs.
globalchat.co is available.

globalchat.net redirects to an adult site.

I bought the domain through Forumotion (Forum provider) so I don't know 100% what my rights are at the moment with regards to being able to redirect it elsewhere. I'll look into it and see what I can find out, obviously if it's possible then I would but if not I could always let it lapse and then re-purchase the domain again.

Might not be the best option.
Have a look at this - http://au.godaddy.com/domains/searchresults.aspx?ci=45397&isc=gtng2au93

I bought it through a different site which doesn't offer domains anymore, now look at godaddy's price.

Letting it expire could still mean forumotion has it registered, so it will cost a lot for another registrar to buy it.

I personally think we should change domain, if this new site isn't going to be focused around runescape any more.

Either way, I want to leave this thread up for a couple of days, to get more feedback.

Yep.

I had a look, I couldn't see anything great, though.

It would have been great if whatever is going to happen could have happened at the same time as RS3. Global Chat is moving on to a new age.

But, the entire idea is moving away from RS. <.<

He's just using the terminology Owen and I don't think you'll ever kill of RS completely because it's something this community will always have in common.

I know he is using the terminology? o.O It makes no sense to coincide an update to the forums with the RS3 update, a game we're predominantly trying to distance ourselves from.

That's not what's happening. We shouldn't be moving away from RS, just expanding to other things as well. Runescape will always be the core of Global Chat no matter what you do.

That's exactly what's happening. >_>

Expanding to other games doesn't work, as proven with the "other games" section of the forums. We haven't had anyone new come to the forums for those games.

I disagree, Runescape will always be the reason we all met. It doesn't have to be the "core" of everything we do.

Then why do you bother logging in every day and sit in the chat? Just stop playing.

Because, that's the only method we have of chatting to people in global chat. How many people won't do what I do? Most people. Most people have just left.

Last time I went on around 5pm it was just me in there and Durza would pop in and say something then leave.

That's because, when people come in and nobody is in the chat, they automatically leave.
