I was wondering if this laptop is good or bad.
It's gonna replace my old, broken one.

intel Core i5-460M processor
4 GB RAM & 500 GB Harddisk
15,6" HD LED screen
nVidia GeForce GT 415M graphic card with 1 GB RAM

Well, 4GB of RAM is pretty good. Mine has that and is was one of the highest amounts you could get on a normal sales laptop a year ago. I don't think you would really need much more than that.

500GB hard drive is plenty, Worst comes to worst you could get an external hard drive if you were that short of space.

15.6" screen size is pretty good. All laptops have LED and HD nowadays so that's pretty much standard.

Regarding your NVidia GeForce, I think it is pretty good, I would link you to the Graphics Card Comparison thread that was on the RuneScape Forums but I can't seem to locate it.

Video card only has 1GB of RAM so unless you're not planning on playing games other than browser games, I'd suggest something with a bit more.

Other than that, it's not that bad

Actually 1GB RAM on a graphics card is very good. An example of this is the Radeon 5850's, I run two of these in crossfire and it was top of the line roughly 6 months ago.

That 1GB is over and above the 4GB of system RAM he has. That means that his graphics will not leach off the system RAM while running games, it is entirely discrete. Discrete graphics in a laptop is, in itself, high-end from a laptop perspective.

Most PC games nowadays will not run lag free with that little.. I had 1GB on my old laptop and it made me want to shoot myself.

I wouldn't go with Radeon anyway - you can find NVIDIA cards that perform better yet for a cheaper price. If you're refering to Crossfire the game, the detail level on that game is very low. Try playing MW2 or any Multi-Platform game on the PC and you'll understand what I'm saying

I do not agree with your opinion on Nvidia. That is not to say they are not good, but ATI cards are very good and affordable as well. In fact the 5800 series was killing Nvidia 6 months ago.

They are competitors and flip flop back and forth as to who is better. If Nvidia was #1 why would anyone buy ATI? I am not taking a side, just simply pointing out that both companies produce killer cards and which ever is better, for the most part, comes down to when you are buying or, if your stubborn, personal preference.

But I digress, the RAM he has is 4GB that is very standard from a gaming laptop stand point.

What I am saying is from personal experience, not from what I've read or been told. I know computers very well so no, I am not confusing the two, thank you.

This is going to be my last post in this thread as I can easily see this turning into an argument. I have never had good experiences with ATI's cards and have never had a complaint about NVIDIA. That's my opinion, just as yours is your own. Please understand that not everyone thinks the same way you do.

As for your gaming experience, I'm not sure if you're just pulling that out of your ass trying to prove your point by saying that those games work, but I've tried playing those exact games along with others on my old laptop and had nothing but problems. Whether or not it was the graphics card that was causing the problems or the hardware, it greatly influenced my decision about ATI.

You're trying to say that a computer company which makes computers that basically destroy them self if you try to change anything about them is going to beat the company that sells the highest spec computers.

Secondly, I don't think you know what you are talking about with the RAM of the graphics card. The top range graphics cards only have 1GB RAM, you find me one with more and I'll show you the price. The RAM works like this, while using low level graphics requirements, the graphics card will simply use the RAM of the graphics card leaving the other 4GB to the CPU. When running high intensity graphics the graphics card will use the designated graphics card RAM and any extra it needs from the 4GB of RAM. However that's only going to happen on the rarest of rare occasions as 1GB is more than enough to run any game, 512 can run the top current games without the need for any other RAM.
