Okay, so it's a possibility tomorrow that I may get offered a "deal" to purchase a really good domain for Global chat.

My question is..

Would you rather..
1. Have a "reasonable" domain (E.g. "Global-Chat.net") [along those lines, not sure it's available]
2. Donate to help cover the cost of purchasing said domain
3. Allow advertisements on the website

This is hypothetical at the moment, as I am trying to find the best solution. Post feedback.

edit, I forgot to add that i'll pay if I can get it relatively cheaply, but short domains containing words are generally fairly expensive.

I can't really put a figure on it, until I know if the domain I have my eye on is for sale and if so how much, and how many people are willing to donate.

..I don't particularly like the idea of asking for donations though, that's really a last resort if it's like 200$ (total), anything more than that and i'd probably say it's not worth it. I'm just wondering if that would be an option.

I'd be willing to cover the difference if it goes up to that.

I have no problem with paying for the domain or at least donating to help pay for it.

Alright cool, the domain I wanted they came back and said it's not for sale. I got fairly friendly with them so they should email me if they change their mind though.

Global-Chat.com is apparently $512, i'm not paying that though. Global-chat isn't that great of a domain.

What domain names would people like to see? Assuming we're keeping Global Chat as the name and dropping RS.

gc.com .. I guess I could contact them, but that's valued at $312k, and if they sell it to me i'm so selling it on. >_>

Global-Chat.com is for sale at $512, but you could probably get it for.. $30-50, I don't particularly like it though.

No, we don't have to change our name to suit available domains.

It's more, what is better a dash, a number or a different TLD.

personally I don't like the dash, so I guess out of the ones we have here, I'd choose theglobalchat.com

Ideally we should move away from using ".com" or ".co" etc because those are companies and we aren't really a company so if we're going to do things properly then either a ".net", ".org" or a ".info" is probably going to be the most suitable.
